Synopsis

In August 2019, comedian and “space prince” Julio Torres (HBO’s Los Espookys, Saturday Night Live) debuted his first HBO comedy special, My Favorite Shapes by Julio Torres. Taped before a live audience at Elsewhere in Brooklyn, New York, the hour-long multimedia comedy show finds Torres exploring his favorite shapes, which include a plexiglass square, a triangle, an oval that he wishes were a circle, a self-conscious cactus and a Ferrero Rocher chocolate that Julio is mad at because she left her little skirt at home. The objects are presented via an industrial conveyer belt and serve as a jumping-off point for fantastical stories, anecdotes and jokes about Julio’s own life and the often-tortured inner lives of the varied shapes – in an alternative comedy hour that’s unique, intimate and unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.
