October sets the stage for a month of cinematic thrills and chills in your park! Check out themes, movies, and event ideas for October below!
Event Ideas:
World Mental Health Day
October 10th
- Offer guided mindfulness meditation sessions in a tranquil area of the park to promote relaxation and stress reduction. Or organize group nature walks, led by experts in environmental education, to encourage attendees to connect with nature and experience the therapeutic benefits of being outdoors.
- Invite mental health professionals, counselors and advocates to host workshops or give talks on topics related to mental health, coping strategies and stigma reduction. Include physical classes, like yoga and tai chi, to promote mind-body practices. Cap off the day with a screening of a relevant film.
Event Idea: Halloween
October 31st
- Light up a campfire and invite moviegoers to share scary stories they’ve heard over the years – or even original tales. But don’t make the whole night doom and gloom – sweeten things up by simultaneously roasting marshmallows for s’mores!
- Before your showing, include a fun, themed activity – like pumpkin carving, fortune telling or horror movie trivia – to create a wickedly good time for your community.
- For a Day of the Dead celebration, invite local artists or families to set up traditional 'ofrendas' (altars) in designated spaces across the park. These can be in memory of their loved ones, showcasing photos, favorite foods, marigold flowers and other traditional items.
