Spark Imaginations this International Creativity Month

With January ushering in both a fresh start and the celebration of International Creativity Month, libraries have a golden opportunity to champion imagination and innovation. Here's a guide to craft unique and interactive events that will resonate with your patrons.

Artistic Interpretations of Classic Tales

Choose a beloved book from your collection and host an art exhibit where local artists showcase their visual interpretations of the story. Follow this up with an art workshop, where patrons can create their renditions inspired by the tale.

More Programming Ideas

Photography Walks
Organize outings where patrons can capture the beauty of the local environment or cityscape. Follow up with a showcase in the library.

Upcycling
Teens have little money, but lots of wants. Help them solve this issue by teaching them how to get creative with upcycling. Want a new bag? Show them how to create one using an old t-shirt. New hat? Just need an old sweater. Discover countless ideas to share on Pinterest.

Storytime Doodles
Studies show that sketching and doodling improve our comprehension -- and our creative thinking.  After a storytime session, encourage kids to draw or paint their favorite scene or character from the story.

Crafting Corners
For the month of January, set up a crafting corner in your library to let patrons express their creativity at any time! Include materials for various crafts, like origami, beadwork or painting and let patrons’ imaginations run wild.
