Films & Activities for Astronomy Day

The spring International Astronomy Day will be celebrated on May 7 this year. Below, discover some of our favorite films – as well as activities – for creating engaging and exciting Astronomy Day programming your patrons this spring.

Kids

Help your youngest patrons celebrate with some astronomical-themed activities. You could DIY constellation viewers, so they can bring Orion, Casseopia and more home with them, or teach kids about moon phases then see who can recreate them all the fastest by licking away the cream on Oreos. Plus, galaxy slime, filled with bright colors and sparkles, is always a hit. Finish your programming with an outdoor family movie night under the stars!

Teens

Create a night just for the teens in your community with a teen-only Starlight Movie Night! For added fun, invite teen patrons to come donned in their best alien attire, have a space-themed photo op for selfies, and feature themed snack options – like astronaut food or Moon Pies.

Adults

Partner with your community’s astronomy club to come share their expertise with patrons.  They could help attendees identify major constellations, gather their bearings from the stars, and much more. Pairing this programming with a romantic dinner under the stars for couples, as well as a space-themed film, makes for a night your passengers will never forget.
