November
American Indian & Alaska Native Heritage Month: Smoke Signals
Celebrate this important awareness initiative in your school community by teaching students about the real history of Native Americans and Indigenous Peoples in America, share info about contemporary Native Americans/American Indians and include relevant – and respectful activities and crafts. To ensure accuracy and provide a more complete picture, consider inviting a local tribe or tribe member to take part – if at all possible.

Make the best of the cold-weather months by throwing a Winter Festival at your school! Include warm beverages, like hot chocolate and apple cider, and themed games – like frosty snowball toss and penguin walk challenges.

Poverty in America Awareness Month: Pursuit of Happyness
Ensure students in your school community are aware of poverty and homelessness crisis in our country – and around the world. Share facts, details and empower them to take action by volunteering or planning a food or clothing drive. You could even make the “cost of entry” to a movie screening a canned food item.
