The Lyric Theater Screens “Wonder” for Local Elementary School.
Recently, the Lyric Theater in Flatonia, Texas, showed the movie “Wonder” to several audiences of Flatonia ISD Elementary students.
Each day, the theater hosted two movie showings for classes to watch this critically-acclaimed movie, ranging from thirty students to their capacity of eighty-four students per showing. Soliciting donations directly from local banks and civic organizations to fund this event, the Lyric Theater also approached the staff at Flatonia ISD about presenting this wonderful movie to the students.
To help spread the movie’s message of kindness, the Flatonia Police Department even invited a special guest to speak to the children and help them understand the steps to take in case of bullying. In terms of scheduling the event, James Longmire, owner of the Lyric Theater, noted that “Swank makes it extremely easy to plan and book the event. Pricing is very good for this type event, which makes hosting movies much easier."
“It was a very successful event for us. This being our first of this type, we do intend to host more.” James Longmire, Owner of the Lyric Theater
Based on the New York Times best-seller of the same name, “Wonder” is the inspiring story of Auggie Pullman – a fifth-grade boy with facial differences who attends mainstream school for the first time in his life. With many schools reading the book in class, and with a feel-good and wholesome message, the Lyric Theater chose this movie for its prominent “Choose Kind” messaging and anti-bullying stance. According to Longmire, "It was a very successful event for us. This being our first of this type, we do intend to host more!”
