The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley (HBO Documentary)
(2019)
Synopsis
The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley investigates the rise and fall of Theranos, the one-time multibillion-dollar healthcare company founded by Elizabeth Holmes. In 2004, she dropped out of Stanford University to start a company that was going to revolutionize healthcare and in 2014, Theranos was valued at $9 billion, making Holmes the youngest self-made female billionaire in the world. Two years later, her company was cited as “massive fraud” by the SEC and its value was less than zero. The film examines how all of this happened and who is responsible, while also exploring the psychology of deception.
