Synopsis

Best Picture winner about British POWs who are forced by their Japanese captors to build a railroad bridge in World War II Indochina, where a battle of wills is fought between the ramrod Allied commander and the brutal camp commandant who faces death if the vital rail link isn't completed on time. Carl Foreman and Michael Wilson's adaptation of Pierre Boulle's novel was awarded Best Screenplay, but since Foreman and Wilson were blacklisted, Boulle received script credit, plus the Oscar.
