Chances are your campus consists of students who celebrate holidays besides Christmas during December. Make sure everyone feels included during this special time of the year by incorporating traditions and celebrations from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Beyond providing inclusive programming, you’ll also be teaching kids about our multicultural world and promoting acceptance of all cultures!

Some Ideas:

• Host a multicultural potluck
• Teach students how to play the dreidel game
• Sing popular holiday songs from a variety of religions and cultures
• Have informational booths for a variety of holidays

This winter, make sure your campus has all the trimmings by pairing a tree lighting ceremony with a festive holiday film! Make sure you have plenty of hot cocoa and apple cider for sale – or for free – to keep students warm.  

Teach students how to wrap their presents like the pros with a fun gift-wrapping workshop! Have participants bring one or two unwrapped gifts so the workshop is hands-on. Include ideas on alternative eco-friendlier wrapping materials, and as well as how to make their own cost-effective bows.

Ensure every child experiences the wonders and joys of the holidays this year by making your movie event a fundraiser for the underprivileged. You can have a suggested donation at the movie screening to raise funds for a local charity, or make the cost of admission a donated toy or food item.

Help students cross a name or two of their gift list by hosting a gift fair before your movie showing! Invite campus clubs, local businesses and artisans to feature their goods, and consider handing out branded tote bags to help students carry around their new holiday haul.
