Synopsis

HBO Documentary Films presents The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, chronicling the triumphs and hurdles of brothers Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb, otherwise known as the Bee Gees. The iconic trio, who found early fame in the 1960s, went on to write more than 1,000 songs, including twenty #1 hits, throughout their storied career. Directed by Academy Award® nominee Frank Marshall, the film follows the Bee Gee’s meteoric rise as they rode the highs of fame and fortune, negotiated the vagaries of the ever-shifting music business, and navigated the complexities of working so intimately alongside family. This documentary about the chart-topping band features intimate interviews with Barry Gibb, the sole living brother, from his home in Miami, as well as archival interviews of his brothers and bandmates Robin and Maurice Gibb. With extraordinary access to the Bee Gees archives, the film brings the magic and mystery of the brothers’ musical genius to life through footage of their electrifying concerts, never-before-seen recording sessions and home videos, and many television appearances, along with insights from some of the biggest names in music, including Eric Clapton, Noel Gallagher, Nick Jonas, Chris Martin, Justin Timberlake, and many others.
