Synopsis
Bill Hader and Henry Winkler reprise their Emmy®-winning roles in HBO’s dark comedy series about a depressed war vetturned-hitman (Hader, in the title role) who finds passion and romance in a local acting class while on a job in LA. As Season Two opens, Barry (Hader) struggles mightily to focus exclusively on the theater and his girlfriend/classmate Sally (Sarah Goldberg), hoping against hope to rid himself of the ties that bind him to a Chechen mob group now led by NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan), who ascended to the top job after Barry whacked his boss last season. Although he’s able to persuade grieving acting coach Gene Cousineau (Winkler) to return to class, Barry finds himself incapable of extricating himself from a violent criminal triangle involving the Chechen, Bolivian and Burmese underworld – not to mention some deeply suspicious LA detectives. Finally, on the Midwest horizon looms Monroe Fuches (Stephen Root), Barry’s erstwhile boss, who has found it exceedingly difficult to hire a replacement in Cleveland as capable as his onetime ace assassin. Created and executive produced by Hader and Alec Berg (HBO’s Silicon Valley), Barry won three 2017 Primetime Emmy® Awards, including the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards in the Comedy Series category.
